Multi Sensory Spelling Activity Digging For Words

My kids love digging words out of this bucket. I used a mixture of flour and baby oil left over from our last "excavation". The recipe for the mix is 8 parts flour to 1 part oil. You can also use rice, beans, or whatever kind of filler you want. This was an excellent multi sensory activity!

They then put the words up on a chalk board under their correct group. The groups we created on Monday when we got the list were: words with short a, short e, short i, short o, or short u. This grouping was done after he had word mapped each word. Here's more information on word mapping and why its helpful for struggling readers, spellers, and writers.
