My kids love digging words out of this bucket. I used a mixture of flour and baby oil left over from our last "excavation". The recipe for the mix is 8 parts flour to 1 part oil. You can also use rice, beans, or whatever kind of filler you want. This was an excellent multi sensory activity!
They then put the words up on a chalk board under their correct group. The groups we created on Monday when we got the list were: words with short a, short e, short i, short o, or short u.
